Due diligence along global supply chains
In order to change the situation of forced and child labor as well as exploitation, the German government has agreed on a draft law with the official name »Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz« (CSR).
The federal cabinet launched the bill on March 3. The German Parliament approved the draft on June 11, 2021. On June 25, 2021, the Bundesrat approved the law. It will now enter into force on January 1, 2023.
The aim is to improve the protection of human rights in global supply chains. The aim is not to implement German social standards everywhere in the world, but to ensure compliance with basic human rights standards such as the ban on child labor and forced labor.
Companies in Germany also bear responsibility for this. They must ensure that human rights are respected in their supply chains.
The law lays down clear and enforceable requirements for the due diligence obligations of companies and thus creates legal certainty for companies and those affected.
